Not all projects that I work on make it to construction but this one was too good not to share. Brought on to design the entertaining heart of this new construction home, we had the entire lower level of this house to fill with all the coolest programs.
The sitting room was intended to be a party room complete with a bar, pool table and speak-easy style entrance into the screening room and golf simulator space.
In this room the goal was to create the ambiance of a movie theater where hushed voices and low lighting allows for a completely emersive movie experience. The floor plan was desiged in a way so the furniture did not interfere with the golf simulator which shares the screen and open floor space.
With previous design experience in restaurants and hospitality when the client said they wanted a wine cellar my mind was ablaze with the possibilities! Instead of the typical dark, wood-paneled room I wanted this to be an element of surprise and delight that could be seen through the back bar of the sitting room. The idea was to create a faux light well behind a wall of excavated rock, a show-stopper of a room.
The alternative to the walk in wine cellar was a reach-in style wall unit which would help save space while simultaneously creating a feature wall for the sitting room.
The final space was a teen hang out room which would be shared by the client's son and daughter. Because the ceilings were 10 feet tall, I wanted to play with inhabiting the space vertically and suggested a few design solutions that would allow for flexible hang-out spaces that could be transformed and adapted by the teens at whim.
